The High Priestess (Agatha theory P3)
Merry meet again, my friends!
Walking through these tarot cards with you have been amazing. Let’s keep this energy flowing with The High Priestess card! As Lilia said, Jen is the path forward. She is the regeneration that comes after death and brings new life.
Just a thought here. What was it that Jen did in life again…? OH YEAH! Obstetrics. Interesting.
The second card Lilia called out in the show was the High Priestess, when she met Jennifer at Agatha’s place. Some speculate that Lilia referenced this card because Jennifer once held the title of a High Priestess. I think Jennifer’s presence triggered a layered psychic moment for Lilia, who we know was experiencing multiple moments in time simultaneously.
Jennifer’s longevity and specialization in alchemy both point to her profound knowledge of nature’s hidden forces and healing properties. Through Lilia’s non-linear perception, she perceived Jennifer as a soul fundamentally aligned with divine power. Jennifer’s extensive alchemical knowledge and healing abilities reflect a deep connection to the natural and supernatural realms, reinforcing her as a figure of immense wisdom.
Torch Pillars
The original High Priestess sits between two pillars, often associated with Solomon’s Temple; Jachin on the right, symbolizing establishment, and Boaz on the left, representing strength. These pillars also signify the balance of opposing forces: masculine and feminine, light and dark, positive and negative. The High Priestess stands at the intersection of these dualities, embodying wisdom, mystery, and the power of intuition. Her position between the pillars indicates that she’s the mediator between these worlds, walking the fine line between opposites.
In the Marvel card, we see these pillars as flaming torches. This is imagery often seen in Greek and Roman artwork. A torch pointed downwards symbolizes death and peace, while a torch held up symbolizes life, truth and the regenerative power of fire. In this show, we’ve so far learned that Jen used to be a midwife (life), was sued for false advertising (truth), and is on the Road to go back to being the witch she used to be (regeneration).

These torches are also reminiscent of her comic book background, which tells us that she was once a highly skilled practitioner trained in Atlantean sorcery. Atlantean sorcery is connected to ancient and forbidden knowledge, particularly nature-based, giving Jennifer a legacy as a wielder of wisdom rooted in Earth’s elemental energies.
Behind the Priestess
On the original card, the background of pomegranates represents her ambition and knowledge. Pomegranates have strong symbolism in many cultures. In Greek and Persian mythology, it symbolizes fertility, beauty, and eternal life. In modern Turkey, families throw a pomegranate on the floor and “crack” it on New Year’s Eve to wish for a plentiful new year. They are also seen as a symbol of power, blood, and death.
Marvel’s card replaced the pomegranates with rays of light radiating from the crown, casting Jennifer in a divine aura. This comes from ancient Greek art, where rays around a figure’s head symbolized divinity or supernatural power. These rays behind Jennifer’s head in Lilia’s vision likely reflect her latent divinity and inner power; qualities connected to her supernatural lineage and her role as a nurturer.
Jennifer’s Atlantean roots and her expertise in life-giving arts reinforce her as a figure of potent, life-affirming energy, similar to the sun, which is often tied to life, positivity, and renewal.
Words on the Scroll
Considering the pillars on either side of the High Priestess represent the pillars of Solomon’s Temple (so many references to Solomon), the scroll in her lap in the original drawing says TORA, referring to the “divine law” of past, present, and future known as Akasha. These symbols represent the inner wisdom of the soul and universe, which is accessible to everyone if they allow themselves to listen inward.
The Marvel version of the High Priestess card says POTION, which is a clear nod to Jen and her position as “potions witch” within the coven. A knowledge that was earned through understanding of botany, biology, and alchemy. Jennifer’s traditions are rooted in centuries of practical study and interaction with the physical world. Her mastery comes from extensive knowledge of the natural and physical sciences that allow her to craft magic that interacts directly with life and nature.

Consider how many herbs, animals, bacteria, and organisms we have on this planet. Every one of them has a purpose within potion-making, and many of them counteract each other. To be the level of alchemist and healer that Jen reached, she had to study for centuries. This re-imagining of the High Priestess archetype makes Jennifer the gatekeeper to practical wisdom. Jennifer’s magic and “divine law” are encoded in the physical elements she has mastered. Her role in the coven, then, becomes one of balance between natural law and magical practice.
AAAHHH! This is such an amazing Marvel experience. I am so impressed by how accurate to historical witchcraft this show has been. Have to give Marvel some props for this one!
Be smart, be sassy, and above all, keep exploring!
