Poe’s Final Macabre Mystery Part XI 

Welcome back to Myths & Mischief! This is your Lovable Lord of Lore, today’s mischievous myth is the third installment of the tale of the death of America’s master of the macabre, Edgar Allen Poe. 

This is the 11th part of a short story that gives a possible explanation of famous author Edgar Allen Poe’s demise.

 The 2 men departed and headed back to Baltimore. On the train home they discussed their next steps.

“We need to figure out what happened to Poe after arriving in Baltimore.” said Thompson.

“What are the possibilities that we are looking at?” asked Wilson.

“Well, by the time he made it to the hospital, he had lost any traces of alcohol, if not the effects. He somehow got from the train station to Ryan’s Tavern. We don’t know if the people that beat him there were involved in any way, or if they were just passersby or if that beating exacerbated whatever condition he was in. Perhaps Dr. Moran has more to offer, and we can go around looking for more witnesses. If we locate the Royster brothers we can find out what they know.”

“Then after that?”

“That may depend on how our investigation goes, or we may have run out of leads.”

“Then what?”

“Then we take on another case. That’s the job security of our line of work, there is always another investigation.”

“It would be a shame if we can’t provide some answers, I figure there are a lot of literature fans, myself included, that want to know what happened to such a famous author.”

“You can say that again.”

“What’s our first stop when we get back to Baltimore?”

“Home, I need some rest before we press on, it will be good to be home again.”

“We’ll meet back in the office after getting settled in then.”

“Sounds good.”

They spent the rest of the ride in silence, reflecting on the investigation and recuperating from the exhaustion from their efforts thus far.
