Are you ready for the culmination of Marvel’s WandaVision cycle? We’re not, to be completely honest. The release of Agatha All Along inspired us to start our YouTube journey, and we have loved every minute of it! Honestly, we can’t believe it’s already been two years. Now, before the show starts, we wanted to share some thoughts about what could be coming in this final series.
After watching all the trailers for VisionQuest, we’re pretty sure that Jocasta will be the main antagonist. Jocasta first appeared in The Avengers #162, and her motives are fairly straightforward, considering she was originally created in the comics to be Ultron’s bride. We think she’s after the only remaining pieces of Ultron’s original code, so, of course, she’s going to be chasing Vision to acquire them. But to understand why she would care about that, we have to go back to The Avengers #211.
When Ultron created Jocasta, he left her with a hidden, preprogrammed objective to rebuild him at all costs. If that programming remains intact, it would definitely explain why she’s pursuing Vision. The final trailer gave us some major reveals that support this theory, including Vision seemingly releasing Ultron to save Tommy. By doing so, Vision may have opened Pandora’s box, allowing Ultron to reconnect to the worldwide web and potentially rebuild his influence. Therefore, we believe this turn of events could lead to a comic-accurate version of Jocasta, built by Ultron himself.
However, how he managed to do that remains a mystery. Did he create her before his defeat but never manage to activate her? Could he create her in secret after Vision releases him to save Tommy? Most importantly, will Jocasta eventually overcome her programming, as she does in the comics, and choose to join the Avengers? There are so many questions we hope to have answered!
Jocasta’s appearance in the MCU also raises another question. If White Vision is carrying remnants of Tony’s other AIs, how much of his own identity can he truly trust? White Vision is already struggling to reconcile his memories with the person he has become, and the AI personalities embedded in his system could complicate matters further. With Ultron potentially reentering the picture, White Vision may have to confront parts of his own programming that he doesn’t fully understand.
There’s also the question of what happens after Ultron returns. Marvel has spent years introducing young heroes who could potentially form the next generation of Avengers. We already met Billy in Agatha All Along, and now we’re getting Tommy in VisionQuest. What we want to know is whether Ultron’s return could have consequences that extend beyond Vision and his family. Could his original programming contain a hidden objective that puts these emerging heroes at risk?
To end this theory, we want to leave you with one final question: Whose brain patterns do you think Jocasta will be based on? Do you think it will be Janet van Dyne, as in the comics, or someone else entirely? Will Marvel remain faithful to the comics, or will the MCU introduce an entirely new character as her template?
